YABC (Young Adult Borough Center) is a late afternoon early evening program designed to serve older students who are at least 17 ½ years old, have a minimum of 17 credits, and have been to high school for at least 4 years. They might be considering dropping out because they are behind or have adult responsibilities that make attending school in the daytime difficult. Our mission is to help these students complete their high school diplomas and prepare them for their lives after graduation.
Students who are in YABC: (1) attend classes from 4:00 PM–9:00 PM Monday–Thursday; (2) can get paying job internships during the daytime (3) participate in workshops that prepare them for college, meaningful employment, healthy personal relationships, and life after high schools; (4) have access to tutoring and student support services before school. The program is administered in conjunction with Good Shepherd Services.
Good Shepherd Services (GSS) is pleased to be a part of the Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) at Automotive High School. The GSS YABC team provides students with individualized counseling services, college and career exploration services and paid internships. Our services are built on a youth development philosophy that focuses on achieving student identified goals through a mastery of fundamental life skills including action planning and positive communication.
